Belfair is a small town at the southern tip of Hood Canal and the main gateway to the North Shore. It is the last stop for groceries, gas, and supplies before heading out to the quieter waterfront communities along the canal. QFC and Safeway are both in town, along with a handful of restaurants and cafes.
Just outside Belfair, the Theler Wetlands Nature Preserve offers easy walking trails and excellent bird watching along the estuary. Belfair State Park has tideland access for oyster and clam foraging, and several public boat launches provide access to Hood Canal. The area is about 75 to 90 minutes from Seattle via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, making it an easy weekend drive.
